Unique to the rest of Martin County, Indiantown is situated in the heart of Florida’s cattle and citrus country. Here the charmingly restored Seminole Inn captures the twilight grandeur of “Old Florida.” Decorated with antiques, pecky cypress ceilings and hardwood floors, the grace and style of an era gone by can be experienced by all who enter through the inns grand double French Doors. The Dupuis Reserve State Forest, excellent for hikers, encompasses 21,875 acres of pine flatwoods, wet prairie, cypress domes, scrub cypress and marsh. Wildlife in the park includes deer, turkey, quail, fox and bobcat. Bald eagles, hawks, owls, woodpeckers and song birds are found as well. Adams Ranch, an 18,000-acre working cattle ranch, offers open-air bus tours, as well as pre-arranged group barbecues. At J & R Outfitters, a big game hunting park on 4,000 acres, sportsmen can hunt for wild hogs, quail, wild turkey, ducks, dove, snipe, a variety of exotic deer and antelope, as well as one of the largest herds of Asian Water Buffalo in the United States. If you prefer to ‘shoot’ with a camera, photographers are welcomed here too and swamp-buggy photo safaris will fill your lens with beauty.
